Abstract

Abstract
This study analyses the adequacy of the existing food regulatory frameworks in Malaysia and Indonesia for regulating novel foods. The analysis is essential as novel foods have entered the domestic market. It offers great opportunities to safeguard global food security and address global hunger. While novel food has gained significant attention among food manufacturers, it is also a sensitive subject involving risks to consumers’ safety and health. The adverse effects of novel ingredients or novel food processing technologies on human health and safety remain scientifically uncertain. Through a doctrinal legal analysis, this study found that novel food in Malaysia and Indonesia does not receive proper regulatory treatment. The existing food regulatory framework formulated for traditional food is rather inadequate, owing to the absence of provisions that can safeguard and protect consumers against the safety and health risks associated with novel ingredients and novel food processing technologies. A reference is made to the novel food regulation in the European Union and Australia-New Zealand to identify the pertinent regulatory features to regulate novel food in Malaysia and Indonesia. This study found a need to enact a regulatory framework for novel food in Malaysia and Indonesia. The regulatory framework shall consist of the labelling requirements, pre-market approval, and post-market monitoring system to strengthen the novel food regulatory framework in both jurisdictions.

Abstract
Online learning in higher education has been introduced for many years but students as well as academic staff still prefer physical classes. Most classes are conducted face to face again, however online learning is still partially implemented, and this term is coined as blended learning. The availability of various free and paid online teaching tools makes it easy for learners and teachers in utilising these online platforms for academic purposes. This paper examines the views and attitudes of students and English language instructors towards online teaching and learning tools. It is a mixed – method study involving 110 university students and 3 language instructors from Malaysia and Uzbekistan. Online survey and interview were used for data collection and the data were analysed using SPSS and Nvivo. The findings revealed that students are concerned with the user – friendly features of online teaching – learning tools with the mean score of 4.14 (SD=0.77) and they admitted the usefulness of these tools on their academic performance especially when it is used as a quick in – class revision with the mean score of 4.25 (0.80). As for their attitude, the students prefer using Quizzes because it is a fun and less stressful approach to having revision with the mean score of 4.41 (0.73). In conclusion, these students who are digital natives not only accept but prefer the integration of technology as part of their learning process. The obvious pedagogical implication is that instructors at higher learning institutions need to equip and upgrade their knowledge and skills related to the use of latest technology and artificial intelligence in their pedagogy to keep up with the need and interest of the students

Abstract

Abstract
The global Muslim travel market has expanded considerably, resulting in increased demand for Shariah-compliant hospitality services. Despite this growth, Malaysian hospitality education remains predominantly aligned with Western paradigms and lacks a cohesive framework for cultivating Muslim-friendly competencies. This study employs a SWOT analysis to examine the internal and external factors that influence the development of a Muslim-friendly hospitality education model in Malaysia. Insights are synthesised from academic literature, policy documents, and industry reports. Internally, Malaysia benefits from a robust Islamic cultural heritage, a well-established halal ecosystem, and specialised educational institutions. Nevertheless, challenges remain, such as fragmented curricula, an overemphasis on halal food management, limited interdisciplinary expertise, and inconsistent training standards. Externally, the expansion of Muslim travel and supportive government policies offer significant opportunities, while regional competition, varying Shariah interpretations, talent mobility, and reliance on Western models constitute notable threats. Rather than proposing a fixed curriculum, this study establishes a strategic foundational framework to assist higher education providers in designing locally adaptive and globally competitive models. Four strategic directions for future development are proposed: growth-oriented, transformative, diversification, and defensive approaches. By highlighting the necessity for a dedicated educational model, this study extends the practical application of SWOT analysis into the domain of hospitality education.

Abstract
Employee retention remains a critical organisational concern due to its implications for operational continuity, recruitment costs, and organisational performance. Despite extensive research on employee retention, limited attention has been given to integrating empirical analysis of retention predictors with strategic analysis to develop context-specific retention strategies. This study examined the predictors of employee retention at Malaysia Takaful Berhad and proposed strategies to strengthen employee retention. Using a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 84 employees through a structured questionnaire using convenience sampling technique. Multiple regression analysis using SPSS examined job satisfaction, working environment, work-life balance, leadership style, organisational culture, and intrinsic motivation as predictors of employee retention. SWOT and TOWS analyses were subsequently used to translate the empirical findings into strategic recommendations. The results revealed that job satisfaction (β = 0.417, p < 0.05) and work-life balance (β = 0.297, p < 0.05) were the only statistically significant predictors of employee retention, while the other four predictors were not statistically significant. The regression model explained 68.3% of the variance in employee retention. The strategic analysis highlighted career progression, employee involvement, work-life balance, and long-term retention intentions as key areas requiring organisational attention. Accordingly, strategies focusing on career development, employee recognition, flexible working arrangements, wellness initiatives, and employee engagement were proposed. This study contributes by integrating regression findings with SWOT and TOWS analyses to translate empirical evidence into practical organisational strategies. The findings provide an evidence-based foundation for developing targeted employee retention strategies at Malaysia Takaful Berhad.

Abstract
Algorithmic representation tools such as flowcharts and pseudocode are widely used in programming education to support students’ understanding of algorithms and problem-solving processes. However, limited studies have examined the relationship between students’ perceptions and the instructional effectiveness of these tools among first-year undergraduate computer science students. This study investigates the correlation between instructional effectiveness and student perceptions toward algorithmic representation tools in learning algorithm development. A quantitative research design was employed involving 95 first-year undergraduate computer science students at UiTM Cawangan Sarawak. A structured questionnaire was used to gather data with five constructs, namely perception towards algorithm design, perception towards flowcharts, perception towards pseudocode, effectiveness of learning algorithms through flowcharts, and effectiveness of learning algorithms through pseudocode. The results showed that all the variables had mean scores in the “Agree” range. Pearson correlation analysis also revealed that there were positive and significant relationships between students' perceptions and instructional effectiveness. The highest correlation was between perception towards the flowcharts and effectiveness in learning algorithms using flowcharts (r = 0.836, p < 0.001), and the second highest correlation was between perception towards pseudocode and effectiveness in learning algorithms using pseudocode (r = 0.793, p < 0.001). The results indicate that algorithmic representation tools are significant in enhancing the understanding of algorithmic concepts, problem-solving skills, and learning confidence in algorithms by students.
